Genetic Testing
A chondro positive cow carries the gene for chondrodysplasia, a form of dwarfism that results in shorter legs and a more compact build. This trait is often desirable in miniature cattle. A chondro negative cow does not carry this gene and will have a standard, non-dwarf frame. If a chondro positive cow is bred with another positive, there’s a risk of having a calf with severe health issues, so careful breeding practices are important.

A homozygous polled cow carries two copies of the polled gene, meaning all of its offspring will be naturally polled (born without horns), regardless of the mate. A heterozygous polled cow carries one polled gene and one horned gene, meaning its offspring have a 50% chance of being polled if bred with a horned cow.

An A2/A2 cow produces only A2 beta-casein protein in its milk, which some people find easier to digest and less likely to cause discomfort. In contrast, an A1/A2 cow produces a mix of A1 and A2 proteins, with the A1 protein potentially being harder for some to digest.
